Chevrolet Camaro
We've seen this design before - it's the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. Originally anticipated to bow in at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, the production car was unveiled on the same day GM's European division launched the Insignia in London.
Built on GM's global rear-wheel-drive architecture, the production model remains faithful to the concept car designed at GM's advanced design center in California. But the company is adamant about stating the car is not retro. "We acknowledge the nameplate's strong heritage in the design, but recognize that keeping this modern sports car relevant meant more than simply honoring a classic car," said Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design. "The line forms, stance and overall execution are consistent with other new Chevrolets."
The new Camaro will be available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine rated at 300hp in standard guise, while a 6.2-liter V8 estimated at 422 horsepower will be fitted to SS models. It will go on sale in the US in late 2009.
Have a look at the video to see how elated Ed Welburn is to finally be unveiling Chevy's new sports car.
