Citroen Berlingo

Citroën has announced the first details of the second-generation Berlingo Multispace. While the last Berlingo model was a popular MPV, with the company selling over 1.75 million car and van versions of the vehicle worldwide since its introduction at the Paris Motor Show more than a decade ago, the new model is claimed to further increase the previous generations comfort, safety and versatility attributes.

Based on PSA's Platform 2 (like the Citroën C4) the new model is slightly larger than its predecessor and boasts stylish design cues for a vehicle in this segment. The new Berlingo Multispace retains the functional family friendly character of the original, yet further strengthens its personality with more upmarket styling.

A more contemporary interpretation of Citroën's successful 'leisure activity vehicle', the new model adds convenience features such as an independently opening tailgate window, three separate removable rear seats and a redesigned 'Modutop' aircraft-style overhead storage system.

On board comfort levels are claimed to rival those of a less practical car, thanks to a longer wheelbase and a 110bhp HDi diesel engine - the same powerplant used in the C4 Picasso. Fitted with a particulate filter, the unit places the new Berlingo into the ‘airdream' category, a Citroën term denoting the firm's more environmentally friendly vehicles.
