This is the new GMC Acadia midi-SUV, the brand's first foray into America's growing crossover segment. Its reduced size has also brought about more refined styling, with tighter shutlines and smaller doorframes around the side-glass, while broad arches help offset any loss of presence. Inside, materials are lower gloss, and conform to a 'low and away' IP theme to give a feeling of openness.

It is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 with VVT (variable valve timing) mated to a new six-speed automatic gearbox, and can tow over two tonnes. The GMC Acadia will rival the Ford Edge and Mazda CX-7 launched in Detroit earlier this year.
