Lexus LF-A Roadster concept

Following in the footsteps of the LF-A concept first seen at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show, Toyota's luxury division has displayed this latest expression: a two seat high-performance roadster.

Unveiled at this year's Detroit Auto Show, the LF-A Roadster uses the same lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum body as the coupe. Powered by a V10 engine that approaches 5.0-liters in displacement, the concept is claimed be capable of more than 500hp and achieve test-track speeds greater than 200mph. The powerplant is mounted behind the front-axle centerline just ahead of the cabin, in a configuration Lexus calls 'front-mid'.

The show car's styling is rooted in Lexus's L-Finesse design philosophy, conferring an aerodynamic shape emphasized by a speed adaptive rear spoiler. The rear end is adorned with arrowhead-shaped taillights that bracket a pair of grille vents which expel warm air from the rear-mounted radiators. Cold air is ingested through two large intake ducts, mounted just above the rear wheel wells. This radiator positioning enables a low front profile and benefits weight distribution.
