Nissan Nuvu concept

The Nuvu concept is Nissan's vision for the future of urban transportation, literally a 'new view' of the type of car the automaker envisions mankind to be driving in the middle of the next decade. At just 3 meters long, compact electric concept is 1700mm tall and 1550mm wide.

The concept wears its environmental credentials on its all-glass roof, featuring small solar panels on the roof shaped like leaves on a branch. These panels harness energy to feed the battery through a 'tree trunk' within the car. The Nuvu also uses natural, organic and recycled materials within the cabin. Aimed at urban dwellers, the concept's 2+1 seating - two regular seats and a third occasional chair that can be folded down - is claimed to enable the cabin to be a spacious and comfortable environment thanks to a 1980mm wheelbase.

Though Nissan stresses the Nuvu is not the production-ready EV the company plans to unveil at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show - which will go on sale in Japan and North America in 2010 - it does share some of the same technology.
