Volkswagen Routan

Volkwagen has just unveiled its new Routan at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. The new MPV, which extends the firm's minivan offerings to a larger segment, was designed in partnership with Chrysler.

The new seven-passenger minivan, developed exclusively for the North American market, is claimed to deliver the best of both worlds, combining European design, fit and finish, and handling characteristics with market relevant features. According to VW, 'Routan' is a newly coined word indicating the bond between Volkswagen and America, and is a combination of the English word 'route' and the '-an' suffix appended to the names of Volkswagen's European vans: Touran and Sharan.

Be sure to read our opinions and see our own unique hi-res photos of the car in our forthcoming Chicago Auto Show Highlights.
