Hummer H3T
Hummer is looking to establish itself in the pickup truck segment with this latest addition to the range, making its official debut at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show this week.
Called the H3T, the new truck is built atop a stretched H3 platform making it a certifiable pickup, unlike the H2 SUT. It offers a 5ft. (1.5m) long bed and larger rear doors than its SUV sibling, which facilitate ingress and egress to the backseat. Critically however, the H3T still maintains the off-road prowess expected of a Hummer truck. Large 33-inch tires give the vehicle a robust stance but also improve
all-terrain performance.
"We had to have a longer wheelbase to increase the functionality of a pickup," Carl Zipfel, Director of Hummer Exterior Design, told CDN. "But we were delightfully surprised with the vehicle's ability off road. I did even better than we expected."
The size of the truck was something also intently strategized by the design team. "We're calling it a mid-plus," said Zipfel, "So it's smaller than a full-size truck but bigger than the [Chevrolet] Colorado and [GMC] Canyon. It carves it own new niche that way."
