Hyundai HDC concept

At the end of November, Hyundai revealed the new HDC at the Guangzhou Auto Show - a Chinese version of the US-spec Elantra. Though the model was badged a concept, the HDC is the first of what is shaping up to be a barrage of Chinese specific vehicles scheduled to be revealed by the Korean automaker in the near future.

Penned at the Namyang Design Center in South Korea, specifically for the Chinese market, the level of change in the design relative to a North American spec Elantra is significant. Nearly every panel of the car has been altered even subtly, hinting just how serious Hyundai is taking the Chinese market.

The front face of the new car has a much sharper image compared with the US counterpart, led by aggressive headlamps and a chrome-clad grille. The wider grille and slimmer lamps also helps to balance out the proportion of volumes around the face, where the US model's grille-to-lamp ratio is less than ideal. The production release of the HDC is due in March 2008.
