Subaru Forester

Subaru released the third-generation Forester in Japan on Christmas day, but the North American version is set to be unveiled at the NAIAS in a few weeks' time.

While the 'new-generation crossover SUV' is wider, longer and taller than the model it replaces (Subaru claims this has improved interior comfort and enhanced driving dynamics) the design of this latest iteration adopts more rugged SUV styling cues than its predecessor - a clear departure from the previous generation's traditional wagon attributes.

The shift in design concept can be seen in the bold design elements such as the sculpted styling, powerful and well-defined 'muscles carved out of stone' surfacing, 17-inch alloy wheels supporting bold wheelarch volumes and, most indicative of all, the optimization of approach and departure angles, coupled with a generous 225mm ground clearance for off-road capability.

Overall interior styling is no-frills and workman like, with the main design theme featuring brushed aluminum flowing from the center panel of the dashboard onto the door trim anchoring. New interior materials, including double-stitched fabrics and high-grade plastics, impart a feeling of higher quality.
