Renault Sandero Stepway

Renault has released photos of the Sandero Stepway, a vehicle the automaker will build for the Mercosur region of South America, which comprises Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Though based on the Sandero hatchback, the new 'urban sports' variant targets sophisticated urban customers looking for a vehicle with assertive and distinctive styling.

The Sandero Stepway's design was programmed by Renault right from the start of the design phase. With its robust styling cues, new car's ambiguous surfacing around the bodyside and sill area - which connects the front and rear wheelarches with a huge hemispheric dip - defines the vehicle's character. Three-tone cladding (a combination of body paint, plastic and brushed aluminum) surrounds the redesigned bumpers and grille, and the Stepway also features new roof bars with an integrated spoiler and a chrome-finished exhaust pipe; rounding out what is a tough yet refined design.

Developed primarily to cater to the needs of the Brazilian market, the Sandero Stepway will be manufactured at Renault's Curitiba plant. It will be powered by the company's most powerful 112hp 1.6-liter 16V Hi-Flex bio-ethanol engine when it goes on sale in Brazil starting in October. A diesel unit will become available for models bound for Argentina shortly thereafter.
