GM have announced their Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, the newest addition to the GMT-900 line of full size trucks. The new exterior design may look evolutionary but, for the first time in decades, the GMC Sierra gets a clearly distinctive brand image that goes beyond the grille and the logos. Apart from the greenhouse and the doors, none of its sheet metal is shared with the Silverado. The Chevy gets flared fenders with tensed surfaces while the GMC has softly bulging wheel arches.

Inside, the materials used and the fit and finish represent a major leap forward that lets GM catch up with the Ford F-150. Two different dash layouts are offered: one that is derived from the GMT-900 family's luxury SUVs, and another one, more linear, called 'Pure American' that clears the floor in the centre, letting a third passenger climb on the front bench seat.
