Honda has announced it will begin sales of the Honda Fit (known as Jazz in Europe) in Japan today. The popular small car retains all its best features - class leading economy, cabin space to rival mid-sized sedans, and easy maneuverability - yet has been updated with some subtle design changes and clever interior space solutions.

e on the new car, a 1.5-liter and a super frugal 1.3-liter, which delive
rs maximum output of 100PS. A CVT transmission is also available. In the chassis, a longer wheelbase and wider track are claimed to offer better stability, maneuverability and handling.
A rotating passenger seat is available on the Japanese-market car which takes full advantage of the Fit's easy access. The seat has a higher position than previously, has additional foot space and features a specially contoured seat cushion. The seat enables easy loading and unloading of a wheelchair through the rear seats.

Honda's CR-Z concept is the latest in a series of lightweight two-seater sportscar concepts revealed by the automaker in recent years. According to the Japanese design team, CR-Z stands for Compact Renaissance - Zero, a testament to the ultimate enviro
nmental goal pursued by the company, yet also hinting at the resurrection of the compac
t CR-X.
Just like the Remix concept shown at the LA Auto Show last year and the Small Hybrid Sports Concept that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the CR-Z concept explores the potential of a compact, lightweight sportscar that's exciting to drive, but has minimal impact on the environment. Propelled by the latest Honda hybrid IMA powertrain to deliver low emissions and high fuel economy, the CR-Z sits low to the ground and is dominated by an imposing, large bumper with gaping air intakes. The smooth lines across the glass roof and rear of the car serve to minimize drag and improve aerodynamics. Tube shaped combination lamps at the rear improve visibility, while other design details include stylish, high-visibility wing mirrors, LED headlights, fin-shaped sidelights and large 19-inch wheels to enhance the sporting appearance.
Inside, the aim was to give the concept car a light, spacious and sophisticated feel. The CR-Z's hi-tech interior features a blue, neon-like finish across the main dash and center console. Mesh material on a simple framework is used throughout, with sporty seats to help support the driver during cornering.

This is a significant new production design; the Accord is off and on the best selling sedan in North America.
The new sedan is clearly an evolutionary design as its predecessors were and as befits its market. It has more heft than before for a slightly stronger and more imposing look, and appears to have taken a lead from the BMW 5 Series in its rear fender surfacing and lower bumper treatments and DLO. An inch taller and wider and three inches longer than its predecessor means the Accord moves from 
mid-size to large in the EPA classification for US market cars.
The coupe debuts along with the seda
n, its design previewed closely by the Accord Coupe Concept shown earlier this year in Detroit.
Inside the US market Accord is a subtle progression of the theme established by its predecessor and shared with the European market Accord.
Technically the Accord sedan and coupe are also evolutionary developments of the outgoing model launched in 2003 with a 3.5 liter V6 and 2.4 liter four cylinder.

Honda is selling a new car in Japan, the Crossroad, which despite measuring just 4285mm long manages to fit in seven seats over three rows. The architecture gives a distinct two-box profile, with the windshield base behind the front axle, pushing the re
armost pair of seats against the trunk lid - resulting in little luggage space with all pews in place.
The Crossroad has a distinct bevel concept applied to the overall form and details. Though not so apparent on the inside, outside cropped corners define the window graphics, while the front overhang is angled in plan, fitting the theme and making parking easier. Also notable are the stacked bumpers and a rear that reminds of the Honda HRV. Two VTEC engines are available, a 1.8- and 2.0-liter, and four wheel drive is also an option.

Accurately described by the name, Honda will be unveiling a hybrid coupe at the Geneva Motor Show in March, designed by their satellite studio outside Frankfurt, Germany. The concept explores the idea that a car can have 'low environmental impact yet still deliver all the driving enjoyment expected of a compact sports car.'
Continuing Honda's green conscience will be a fully operational FCX, first seen in 2005 at the Tokyo Motor Show. Retaining the distinctive short nose/long wheelbase proportion of the excellent show car, this driveable version features a newly developed fuel cell stack that offers a 356mile range and top speed of 100mph. Limited marketing of a subsequent new model based on the Honda FCX concept is to begin in Japan and the US in 2008.

For the first time Honda will publicly present an Accord concept car. Hinted at here in the sketch, the coupe will be unveiled in January at the Detroit Auto Show. The Accord is Honda's best selling car in the North American market, and the concept previews its next iteration that will continue to compete with the market-leading Toyota Camry. Further details are scarce, but we're guessing this is more production preview than concept.

Honda has announced the release of their new Stream in Japan, a compact MPV with seven seats. Like the outgoing model, the architecture allows a low floor to bring the roofline down to 1545mm - which also benefits parking in the country's stacked mechanical lots.
While the previous
model alluded more to the Civic in its down-road-graphic, the new Stream is closer to the larger Odyssey, while the front sub-pillars have been removed for greater visibility. It is available with 1.8- and 2-liter VTEC engines, and 
a raft of technologies introduced by the range-topping Honda Legend.

Ten months after the launch of the five-door Civic comes the latest three-door version, to be unveiled as the Type-S in London later this month. Styling changes between the Type-S and five-door model are limited, though its suspension has been tuned for a more sporting drive. Most noticeable outside is of course the lack of rear doors, though by dropping them, the profile benefits from more naturally spaced shut-lines.
Two engines will power the new three-door: a 
petrol and a diesel, both producing 140PS. The Type-S name was first applied to the larger Accord when its Type-R derivative was discontinued: fortunately this is not the case with the Civic, and the Civic Type-R will hit Europe next March with 200PS. The Type-S arrives there in January.

A prototype of the next-generation Honda Pilot will be unveiled at the NAIAS in January.
At the moment all we have to go on is this sketch, which depicts a chunky, more agressive vehicle with bulging wheelarches and large wheels. Honda is telling us that the prototype will 'convey design features of a more boldly-styled, next-generation Pilot' which aims to emphasize authentic SUV styling, convenience features and clever interior packaging.
As always, we'll share our opinions of the concept from the Detroit Auto Show floor.

Honda has just unveiled its Pilot prototype at the 2008 NAIAS, previewing the next generation small SUV scheduled to debut in Spring 2008.
By integrating the refinement and packaging attributes of a unit body car design with the utility and capability of an SUV design, the eight-seater aims to integrate the best of the car and truck worlds.

This is Honda's all new European-market Accord, targeting established premium contenders in the D-segment. Set to be offered in both sedan and Tourer (wagon) versions, the new car will make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show next month.
Styling cues are very similar to the Accord Tourer concept shown in Frankfurt last year. Claimed to be significantly wider and slightly lower than its predecessor, the 'sharp-edged' design emphasizes the car's wider track and gives the Accord a more powerful sta
nce. The front end design
communicates a tauter and more athletic shape, which is even more pronounced in the case of the Tourer.
The cockpit is said to be characterized by a strong feeling of personal space for both the driver and front passenger. Featuring 'floating' backlit instruments and silver trim which sweeps inwards across the fascia from either side before continuing down into the center console, the interior also offers numerous storage compartments and a new internal structure designed to reduce vibrations.

The Honda Racer, a car designed by Honda's advanced design studio in Torrance, California, has just hit the streets. But you can't drive it. That's because it is actually a 1/64th scale Hot Wheels toy car that was selected to be produced as part of the Hot Wheels Designer's Challenge along with designs from five other automakers.
Designer Guillermo Gonzalez describes the Racer as "[A vehicle] which combines the excitement of Honda's 
racing heritage with
Hot Wheels' reputation for speed, power, performance and attitude." The toy car's shape is dictated by Honda's 'H' emblem: driver and navigator are separated by Honda's V-10 VTEC engine, and the open cockpit, white and red paint scheme, large exhaust system and open wheels are elements inspired by the historic 1967 Honda RA 273 race car.
Starting in mid-August, a 1/5th scale model of the Racer and other cars from the Designer's Challenge will embark on the Hot Wheels 40th anniversary cross country tour starting at Mattel's headquarters in California and traveling along historic U.S. Route 40.

Honda has released a new compact minivan, the Freed, in the Japanese market. Honda claims that this new mini passenger carrier - which comes in three different trim levels and five, seven and eight-seater configurations - combines an easy-to-use, spacious cabin with stylish design.

f "Freedom to create the perfect lifestyle," the Freed features Honda's original low-floor and low-center-of-gravity technology, to achieve a compact body size that makes it easy to maneuver through the narrow city streets of Japan. While the Freed only measures in at 4215mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,715mm tall, an exceptionally long 2,740mm wheelbase allows a spacious cabin that enables seven adults to sit in three rows.
A sharp, strong front face design and robust and distinctive body-side character line with a surface kick-up around the rear wheelarch make for aggressive and dynamic exterior styling, while a layered-design instrument panel and instrument cluster above the steering wheel enhance visibility and highlights its bright and spacious interior.

This is the latest image of a new low-emission, lightweight sports car concept Honda will unveil at the London Motor Show later this month. According to the company, the two-seat roadster aims to couple sleek looks with exciting driving dynamics and more efficient engine technology for lower exhaust emissions.
Called the Honda OSM (Open Study Model), the car was designed by Honda's R&D facility in Offenbach, Germany. Its aerodynamic exterior, designed to minimize drag, is adorned with a large front grille mounted between angular headlights that stretch from nose of the hood to the top of the wheelarches. The wide, sloping rear end incorporates a narrow rear light strip, which wraps around the rear of the car.
While there are no plans for this design study to enter into production, Honda will gather feedback from customers at the show to guide any future developments.

As we reported earlier this month, Honda has revealed its latest concept at the British Motor Show. The lightweight two-seat roadster was developed around the 'clean and dynamic' theme - a direction followed for both the exterior and interior design.
The exterior is a balance of smooth, rounded curves and sharp lines to provide definition in key areas. The headlights are cleverly integrated into the front end, stretching from the nose to the top of the wheel arches to look more like a part of the original body.
Inside, long sweeping curves extend from both door panels to form a frame for the instrument display. The dashboard is broken into sections with the most important instruments shown in a rounded, enclosed central binnacle and the driver's main controls are distributed in an intuitive layout, close at hand on a panel that curves downwards to the right of the driver.

Honda’s new 'affordable’ hybrid has broken cover, in the form of the Insight concept set to debut at the Paris Motor Show next month.
The concept, which shares its styling cues with the Honda FCX Clarity fuel-cell vehicle unveiled at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show, provides an early look at the highly-anticipated five-passenger hybrid 
vehicle.
Taking its name from the original two-seat gas-electric hybrid introduced in the US in December 1999, the five-passenger Insight concept has a low center of gravity and an aerodynamic design identifying its fuel efficient purpose.
The new vehicle will be produced at an expanded hybrid vehicle production line at the Suzuka factory in Japan and go on sale in the U.S. next spring, furthering the accessibility of hybrid technology to a new generation of buyers.
Following the launch of the new Insight, Honda also plans to introduce another unique sporty hybrid vehicle based on the CR-Z, first shown at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show.

The concept features an aggressive look that adopts what Paz calls, a multi-faceted design language. "The idea was to show very aggressive styling on the body and keep it very simple on the top section with a dynamic roof line flow," Paz explains. One of the most interesting styling elements of the Acura coupe with its 2+1 seating arrangement is the prolonged transparent rooftop that allows a see-through view of the engine compartment.
