JJAD Project 001
Ex-McLaren designer Jim Dowle has started JJAD, a new UK-based automotive design & prototyping business. After having spent 12 years working at McLaren and being involved in the design, development and testing of both the F1 and the SLR, Dowle decided to try his hand at something else and came up with the idea for what he calls 'Project 001'.
Styled and rendered by Alejandro Loya from Mexico, the car will be fitted with a mid-mounted
engine expected to
deliver ‘around 200bhp' and weigh 870kg, thanks in part to an aluminum/carbon composite chassis. "For the past year I have been working on the design of a car which is best described as a competitor to the Exige." Dowle told Car Design News, "My priority is to make this car fun to drive."
A quarter scale clay model is currently being built with a final running prototype expected in the next two years. Dowle's focusing on the packaging and suspension design, to give a sensible amount of luggage space. "Usability and practicality are something else I want 001 to have bucket loads of," he says. The car will cost around £35k.
