Though we only have this image by which to judge, it seems the newcomer has voluptuous lines derived from its more upscale Lexus brethren. Parent company Toyota has been struggling to make its mark on the design scene, but now seems to have found footing.

Now in its third generation, the D-segment Avensis will be built at the automaker's Burnaston plant in the UK and will go on sale in January 2009. There are no official powertrain details as yet, but Toyota claims the engine lineup is more powerful while emitting less CO₂. We'll give you our verdict once we see the car in the metal on October 2.
