This is the new VW Gol, the second generation of the most successful automobile in South America for the last 21 years. The new compact car is specifically geared toward the local demands of customers in South America but is also aimed at the emerging markets in China, India, Russia, South Africa and Latin America
Designed in Brazil, the new Gol uses the same platform as the VW Polo and Fox, cars with which it shares its overall dimensions. Power will come from a 1.0-liter or 1.6-liter engines using Totalflex technology, which can be driven on a
ny mixture ratio of gasoline and
ethanol, like all Volkswagen models made in Brazil.
Though the new car will initially be built in Brazil, there is also scope for manufacturing in China, Argentina and possibly Russia. Brazil is the second largest foreign market for the Volkswagen Group after China. The company sold 581,300 vehicles there last year, 32 percent more than in 2006.
